2023 a Year with GEM Geneva: A Gemstone Aficionado's Adventure

In the effervescent world of gemstones, few events parallel the grandeur and allure of GEM Geneva. This bi-annual show, with two editions in the first and second halves of the year, is a gemstone enthusiast's dream, showcasing an array of stunning stones from around the globe. This year, I had the pleasure of attending both editions, and I am thrilled to share my experiences.

GEM Geneva - May Edition

Embarking on this journey with BxG in May 2023 was an unforgettable experience. GEM Geneva brought together industry professionals and gemstone enthusiasts, creating a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. I had the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, and fully immerse myself in the world of precious gems.

One of the highlights of the event was meeting Klemens Link, Director at Provenance Proof, whose work I had followed extensively during my consulting phase at EY with Blockchains. It was a pleasure to discuss how technology is being used to ensure traceability and transparency in the gemstone industry. As a young company, we hope to use this platform to promote ethical gemstones and jewelry, especially in an era where ESG values are key.

The event coincided with Mother's Day weekend, which meant I had the perfect excuse to splurge on a beautiful opal. The quest for the ideal opal was a delightful adventure, shared with a group of gentlemen who were equally invested in the search.

The May edition also offered a chance to meet industry friends in person, some of whom I had been interacting with for months. This only solidified the sense of community within the gemstone world.

GEM Geneva - November Edition

Fast forward to the November edition of GEM Geneva, the event was as mesmerizing as the first. The diversity of gemstones, from the exquisite spinels to the mesmerizing Paraiba tourmalines, was a spectacle to behold.

The show was a treasure trove of unique finds. Among the many wonders were jewelry pieces inspired by sea creatures, adorned with small gemstones, showcasing meticulous craftsmanship.

The rare gem of the show was undoubtedly a 9-carat Padparadscha star sapphire. This masterpiece, crafted by the talented Celeste Wu from Marvellous Jewels, was a testament to the artist's dedication and skill.

On this photo the main piece was dislocated from the ring, so it can also be worn as a pendant or a brooch.

GEM Geneva's November edition was not just a showcase of gemstones, but a journey of art, beauty, and inspiration. It was a testament to the creativity and passion that drives the gemstone industry.

As we bid farewell to GEM Geneva 2023, we look forward to the gems and stories that the next year will bring. Until then, keep sparkling!
